Dallas, TX – The DISD's Chief Financial Officer says he'll be leaving December 17th to return home to Austin. Larry Throm arrived here in 2009 to help fix the fiscal crisis that put the district nearly 90 million dollars in the red. Hundreds of teachers were laid off.
Throm: I'm confident that I can come back 3-4-5 years from now and many procedures that we've create during my 2 years here will still be there. And one reason for that is that we put in the Texas Education Agency accountability system into this district. Same one Houston has, same on Austin, Fort Worth and every other smaller school - Plano - around here everyone's got. As long as they continue to follow the manual, then you'll have your accounting straight.
Throm says he and his staff put necessary solutions in place that should keep the district fiscally sound and solvent. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa praised Throm for helping the district at a critical time. The DISD is looking for a replacement.
