Dallas, TX – General Motors announced today that Texas will be among the 7 locations where it will sell the first Chevy Volt Electric cars later this year. A team from Chevy made the announcement in Austin Thursday then headed up I-35 for a 1700 mile promotional drive to New York.
The Volt can travel about 40 miles on an electric charge alone, then a gas driven engine will generate power for another 300 miles of travel. Chevy hasn't revealed how many miles per gallon the car will get or what the sticker price will be.
Marketing Manager Tony DiSalle talked with KERA's Shelley Kofler and says one of the reasons Chevy is launching the Volt in Texas is to prove the electric car can withstand triple-digit temperatures.
