Dallas, TX – A Dallas Police officer is facing charges for firing a gun in a squad car during a drunken off-duty incident.
Two fellow officers, called to a Dallas bar, put 27 year old Kelly Beemer in the back seat and began to drive her home.
She verbally resisted. Police say as the squad car approached Gaston and Abrams, Beemer pulled a revolver from her ankle holster and shot through the floorboard.
She was disarmed. No one was injured. Beemer faces a misdemeanor weapons charge and is on leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
The two officers are on restricted duty and also under investigation.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown calls Beemer's conduct reckless and unacceptable.
He says the two officers were trying to do the right thing and assist an officer, but probably should have arrested her on the spot for public drunkenness.
