Dallas, TX –

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has four priorities for education if she is elected Texas Governor. KERA's BJ Austin says the Senator rolled out her "education" plan at Collin College in Plano Tuesday

Senator Hutchison says her top education priorities are technology, quality teachers, cut the drop out rate, and spend money more efficiently. The Senator says she wants to see new technology, and e-curriculum, in the hands of all students: something smaller than a laptop, but more than an e-reader. And, she says she's talking with high tech companies about such technology.

Hutchison: We think we can save millions from buying all of these textbooks by having the e curriculum that would come from these small, versatile, hybrids. And yes, I do believe we are on the cusp of beginning to have something like this.

Hutchison says teaching with outdated material from a text book is not a "best practice". She and Governor Rick Perry will meet in the March Republican primary. The governor's office says he has improved education by balancing accountability with teacher incentives and student performance.
