Hutchison, Perry Accept KERA Debate

By Shelley Kofler, KERA News

Dallas, TX –

Governor Rick Perry and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison have both accepted KERA's invitation to a statewide televised debate scheduled for January 14th in North Texas.

Both campaigns confirmed in writing with Hutchison saying if a healthcare vote in Washington came on the 14th she might request an alternative date.

KERA and its media partners are planning for a live, hour-long debate with an audience and questions posed by journalists. The debate will be distributed to all TV and radio stations across the state. It will be simulcast in Spanish and streamed live for the public and print media.

Additional candidates would be invited to participate if they meet KERA's debate policy.

KERA will also invite Democrats running for Governor to debate as well.
