TxDOT Beats Federal Stimulus Deadline

Dallas, TX –
A milestone of sorts for Texas.
To get federal stimulus money swiftly into the economy, states were given 120-days to obligate 50-percent of their highway funds.
That had to be done by today and Texas beat the deadline by more than two weeks.
Kellie Petras (PeTRAHS) of TxDOT said a backlog of road projects made it easy.
Kellie Petras: "You know we only get so many federal funds and fortunately we have a lot more projects that we could still fund had we had the money. But having a lot of projects on the books really helped us beat that deadline."
TxDOT marked the accomplishment today in Cedar Hill. Stimulus money will finally enable a $1.3 million improvement at FM-1382 and Old Straus Road.
The dangerous intersection has been on and off the state's schedule three times.
