Austin, TX – Some good news out of Austin for struggling car dealerships. They are on their way to having their own state agency. Tuesday the state Senate joined the House in passing a bill that will make the dealerships independent of the Texas Department of Transportation. Supporters say that will allow dealerships to react to regulatory issues and needs more quickly.

Drew Campbell, President of the New Car Dealers Association of Dallas-Fort Worth, was in Austin for the vote. So was KERA's Shelley Kofler. She talked to Campbell just prior to the legislation passing. Shelley also asked Campbell about the 60 General Motors dealers in North Texas and how many G-M has contacted with news they'll be closed.
