Master Plan For Dallas Arts District
By BJ Austin, KERA News
Dallas, TX – There's a new Master Plan for the Dallas Arts District. KERA's BJ Austin says it sees PARKING as one of the biggest challenges for the growing District.
The Dallas Arts District is about to double in size when the Winspear Opera House, and the Wyly Theatre open this fall' the city Performing Arts Theatre, next year. The Master Plan says the new, necessary PARKING needs to be underground. City Councilmember Angela Hunt says they have an ace-in-the-hole
Hunt: The DMA garage was planned so that it can double in size, double in size underground. So that is something that we really need to consider and look at.
Hunt says such Arts District projects will likely be on the city's 2010 bond issue. The Master Plan, presented to a council committee, calls for two "signature" pedestrian portals to the District, as well as memorable streetscapes, and connection to mass transit.
