Dallas, TX – North Texas has a lot on the line as Congress hammers out a bailout package for the country's Big Three automakers. University of North Texas Economist Bernard Weinstein says the General Motors plant in Arlington probably pumps $1 billion into the area economy each year.

Weinstein: Probably directly or indirectly that plant accounts for over 4,000 jobs in DFW. It has to be one of the major manufacturing employers in the metroplex.

Weinstein expects GM and the Arlington plant to survive even if the company files for bankruptcy.
