Dallas, TX – A memorial service is Friday in Dallas for former City Councilman Jerry Bartos. KERA's BJ Austin reports Bartos died over the weekend at age 75.

Jerry Bartos served on the Dallas School Board from 1979 to 1981, then on the City Council from 1987 to 1993. He was an outspoken critic of the Wright Amendment flight restrictions at Dallas Love Field when that was not the popular view. Craig Holcomb served on the City Council with Bartos and says not many people knew he was quite the cartoonist. Holcomb says Bartos often presented him with caricatures drawn during the meetings.

Holcomb: He and I disagreed on lots of stuff, but the cartoons were always very funny and warm. And I think that's what I'm going to remember about him the most.

Holcomb says Bartos was always fun and interjected a little humor at City Hall.
