DISD Ranks Poorly in New TEA Report

By Bill Zeeble, KERA News

Dallas, TX – Dallas Independent School district claims more unacceptable schools than any district in the state, according to a new report from the Texas Education Agency. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more.

In its newly released comprehensive report to the legislature, the TEA lists 26 academically unacceptable schools in the DISD. That's more than any other district in Texas. Even the state's largest Houston independent school district, has but 15 academically unacceptable schools. Fort Worth has the same number. In another section of the report, the TEA says roughly 4 out of 10 high school graduates were considered college ready.

That's according to the TAKS test, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge & skills. In all tested categories, including reading and math, student scores rose from the previous year.
