New Prepaid Tuition Fund

By Shelley Kofler

Dallas, TX – The state comptroller today announced a new prepaid tuition program that will allow families to pay today's rate for a college education in the future.

A previous program, the Texas Tomorrow Fund, stopped accepting applicants in 2003.

Comptroller spokesman, R.J. De Silva says this plan, the Texas Tuition Promise Fund, will give families an alternative to the rising cost of college.

RJ: "What the state is looking at is making college more affordable for families in every walk of life. And when you look at this pre paid tuition plan there's so much flexibility that is offered in it."

Families buying in today would pay $9,850 to guarantee one year of tuition and fees at any public institution in Texas. Families can pay a lump sum or installments.
