Dallas, TX – American Airlines calls pilot reductions regrettable, but record high fuel fees are forcing the move. The carrier's offered a financial package for senior pilots, hoping they'll take early retirement. The Allied Pilots Association's Karl Schricker says the union's still looking at the details.
Schricker: So we hope the possibility of 200 pilot furloughs ends up being no pilot furloughs.
The package could also clear a path up for junior pilots. Still, Shricker worries about pilots just recalled in June who may have left temporary jobs to fly again. They'll be the first furloughed in October, if it comes to that.
