The Democratic National Convention convenes today in Charlotte, North Carolina. A first-time delegate from Fort Worth is anxious to bump up the profile of Texas Democrats.

North Texas delegates are reporting both triumphs and disappointments from the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Today Texas voters are deciding party nominees for the U.S. Senate, newly created Congressional District 33 and other important races across the state.

Mail-in ballots for the the Congressional District 33 race in  Dallas and Tarrant Counties have exceeded mail-in ballot numbers turned in for the primary --  in half the time.

Governor Rick Perry joined former Senate candidates Craig James and past Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert at a phone bank to back Lt. Governor David Dewhurst. 

National tea party organizers say tomorrow’s U.S. Senate race between Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst is an important test. It will tell them whether the efforts of tea party activists can defeat established Republican candidates in a big, red state like Texas.

Early voting for the July 31st runoff election ends today. Local and state officials say turnout so far has been far higher than expected, as KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports.

National tea party favorites took stage at a packed American Airlines arena in Dallas last night.  South Carolina Senator Jim Demint was among those who told a crowd of 15,000 that Tea Party conservatives across the country are poised to defeat incumbent Republicans again this year.

The brand new Congressional District 33 runoff race is one of the hottest in North Texas. Early voter turnout is already higher than predicted. Fort Worth’s Marc Veasey and Domingo Garcia, from Dallas, have honed their messages to win as many Democratic votes as possible.

If you don’t have your voters’ certificate, or driver’s license, or a state-issued ID, you can still vote in the Texas primary runoff elections starting today.

Early voting begins today for Texas runoff elections. Nowhere are the candidates campaigning harder and spending more money than in the Republican U.S. Senate race. On Saturday Ted Cruz headlined three Tea Party rallies beginning in Garland, where he fired up a crowd of about 100.

Former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert upstaged a televised debate between Republican senate candidates David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz Tuesday night when he appeared with Dewhurst and endorsed him. 

Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert finished third in the Republican primary behind Dewhurst and Cruz, both of whom sought his support.

Leppert said his decision on who to endorse came down to the question of who could create jobs.  He said Dewhurst has proven he can do that by building a successful energy business. 

Less than three weeks before Election Day an independent poll shows Ted Cruz overtaking David Dewhurst in the Republican race for the U.S. Senate.  It comes in the midst of news that previous Dewhurst speeches have been removed from the Internet.

During last night’s KERA debate, Democrats running for Congress in District 33 disagreed over Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Air Force jet. It’s built in Fort Worth by thousands of workers. State Representative Marc Veasey from Fort Worth favors the fighter. Former Dallas State Representative Domingo Garcia has concerns.

The Democratic primary hopefuls in the new Congressional District 33 race traded political shots during Tuesday’s debate on KERA. 

Sparks flew in recent meetings between former Dallas State Representative Domingo Garcia and Fort Worth State House member Marc Veasey. Tonight, fireworks may flare again in KERA’s runoff debate between the two Democrats.

The Democratic candidates in the runoff for US Senate talked about health care, border security, gay marriage and marijuana in their first televised debate hosted by KERA. BJ Austin reports.

Republican voters will be asking questions when Senate candidates Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst meet tonight for their first one-on-one debate at KERA.

There’s one day left before Republican Senate candidates David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz face off in their first televised debate, live from KERA’s studios. 

KERA will host a second U.S. Senate debate between the Democrats who finished first and second in the May primary. Former state representative Paul Sadler and retired educator Grady Yarbrough will tape a one-hour television debate that will be broadcast on KERA Channel 13 on Wednesday, June 27 at 7 p.m. and in other Texas markets at various times.

The Texas Republican Party has adopted a plan for some of the illegal immigrants in our state. This weekend the party adopted a platform calling for a guest worker program.  

Republican activists who booed U.S. Senate Candidate David Dewhurst earlier cheered loudly and waved a sea of Ted Cruz placards as Dewhurst’s opponent took the stage at the state GOP convention Saturday.
