Senate Confirms U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe As Director Of National Intelligence

The Senate on Thursday confirmed U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Heath, as director of national intelligence, elevating him to a cabinet-level position in the Trump administration and creating a vacancy for a congressional seat in Texas.

The Senate intelligence committee has approved the nomination of Texas GOP Rep. John Ratcliffe to be Director of National Intelligence, sending the nomination to the Senate floor for confirmation.

President Trump's nominee to serve as America's top spy vowed on Tuesday to operate independently in response to bipartisan questions as to whether he could keep politics out of intelligence work.

Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas., assured both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that if confirmed as director of national intelligence, he would not apply a partisan filter to reporting, shade conclusions to please Trump, or apply inappropriate tests to workers in the intelligence community.

John Ratcliffe declared victory Tuesday night after defeating longtime incumbent Ralph Hall, America’s oldest Congress member.

The district runs from Rockwall County to East Texas and along the Red River. Hall is well-known and admired by many, but Ratcliffe's supporters say Hall has spent enough time in Congress and that it's time for new leadership.
