If you've got a four-legged friend, chances are you've scoped out dog-friendly greenspace in your neighborhood. The Trust for Public Land just ranked the 100 largest U.S. cities, according to dog parks. At No. 40, Irving was the only North Texas town to crack the top 50.

Four chefs and two restaurants in Dallas are up for the prestigious James Beard Awards, which annually recognize culinary excellence. But Big D is definitely not the only Texas city to make the list.

Many of the people who care for disabled Texans don’t earn a living wage. Charlotte Stewart is executive director of REACH, a nonprofit that advocates for people with disabilities. She has a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis, and she's helping lead the fight to boost pay for aides funded by Medicaid. They’re known as community attendants.

Texas is dotted with Freedmen’s communities — African American neighborhoods that sprouted after the Civil War in the era of segregation. They range from Ellis Alley in San Antonio to the Fourth Ward in Houston to Deep Ellum in Dallas. Another one in Dallas that's been nearly forgotten, Little Egypt, is getting a renewed look thanks to Richland College.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines plans to add 700 flight attendants to its Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport hub, an airline spokeswoman confirmed.

The reason goes back to the airline's merger with US Airways in 2013: American Airlines flight attendants could only fly on original American Airlines planes, not US Airways.
