With all polling places reporting, Jill Dutton led fellow Republican Brent Money by slightly more than 100 votes in the District 2 House race to replace Bryan Slaton.

The year was a blast furnace, marked by drought, triple-digit heat and historic wildfires. It started with a dry winter that quickly turned into a hot and dry spring, setting the state up for a stretch of scorching months that lasted long into the fall.

A handful of antibody treatment centers for COVID-19 have opened up recently across North Texas. They are a few of more than 20 centers launched statewide since August.

Mount Pleasant in northeast Texas lags behind the state in its vaccination rate, but the town is boosting its numbers by mobilizing churches, nonprofits and other trusted community leaders to help overcome residents’ fears and doubts.

A statement from Wolfe City said Officer Shaun Lucas, 22, was fired for “his egregious violation” of city and police department policy.

According to the affidavit, written by a Texas Ranger, the entire interaction between the two on Oct. 3 was captured on a body camera. That footage has not been released.
