Wendy Davis and Greg Abbott have both accepted KERA's invitation to a live, televised debate on Sept. 30.

Two candidates for Texas governor, Democrat Wendy Davis and Republican Greg Abbott, have accepted KERA’s invitation to a live, televised debate at 8 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Davis agreed to the debate today; Abbott accepted the invitation Friday after negotiations for a separate debate on that date with WFAA-TV broke down.

KERA will make the hourlong broadcast, The Texas Debates: The Race for Governor, available to all radio and television stations across the state. It will also be streamed online and simulcast in Spanish.

The debate, with a panel of journalists posing questions in the KERA studios, is a co-production with The Dallas Morning News, NBC 5/KXAS-TV, Telemundo 39/KXTX-TV and other media partners.

Former KERA staffer Shelley Kofler was news director, managing editor and senior reporter. She is an award-winning reporter and television producer who previously served as the Austin bureau chief and legislative reporter for North Texas ABC affiliate WFAA-TV.
