If you're traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday this year, plan for busy roads and busier airports. AAA Texas projects that more than 4.1 million Texans will travel 50 miles or more around Turkey Day.

That's the second highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 1999. The number of Texans expected to travel for Thanksgiving is up 2.5% from last year.

The vast majority of people will drive, and that means drivers should be ready for delays. On Wednesday afternoon trips could take up to four hours longer than usual as travelers hop on highways already clogged with commuters.

More than 250,000 Texans will fly over the holiday — 3.5% more than a year ago.

A strong economy and relatively low gas prices are at the root of the increased holiday travel, according to a AAA report.
