Top Stories: UNT Dallas Gets Another Chance At Accreditation; Farewell To 'The Edge'

UNT Dallas College of Law

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The UNT Dallas law school will get a second chance to earn accreditation. The American Bar Association voted to extend the process after it reviewed documents and school testimony last month.

UNT Dallas has been fighting an ABA recommendation against accreditation. The organization raised questions over the school’s admissions policies and financial health.

If UNT Dallas doesn’t earn accreditation, its graduates won’t be able to take the Texas bar exam and practice in the state.

The school likely won’t hear a final answer from the bar until around the time its first law school class graduates in the spring. In the meantime, UNT Dallas plans to apply to the Texas Supreme Court for an exception that would allow those graduates to sit for the bar.

Other stories this morning:

  • U.S. Senator John Cornyn yesterday told reporters he had little knowledge about President-elect Donald Trump’s transition efforts, aside from what’s been reported. It’s tradition that a presidential transition organization stays in touch with Capitol Hill leaders over potential appointments.
  • “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” gets the book-to-big screen adaptation.
  • After 27 years,iHeartMedia is shutting down 102.1 FM The Edge. If you try to listen to the Edge online now, you’ll hear Semisonic’s song “Closing Time” on repeat, and a message redirecting you to The Eagle on 97.1 FM.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 8:22 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
