Top Stories: North Texas Man Executed For Double Murder; Meet The New Dallas City Manager

The Texas Tribune

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Texas last night executed its second man this year. Terry Edwards was convicted of killing two people at a Subway shop in Balch Springs in 2002. The U.S. Supreme Court delayed the execution several hours to consider last- minute appeals.

Other stories this morning:

  • More than 1,300 volunteers stayed up late last night to count the homeless across North Texas. North Texas cities use the count to pinpoint where to aim resources and housing. Volunteers last year counted about 700 unsheltered homeless people across Dallas and Collin Counties.
  • Officials with the troubled Dallas Police and Fire Pension System and the city spent several days this week trying to negotiate a solution for the system -- only to come up empty. This all becomes T.C. Broadnax’s problem next week when he takes over as the city manager.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 8:22 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
