The top local stories this evening from KERA News: Hundreds of kids and parents are being separated at the southwest border after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions doubled down on the Trump administration’s efforts to prosecute all cases of illegal entry into the United States.

As parents wait for court dates in criminal detention facilities, their children are placed in shelters across the country.

In West Texas, three Guatemalan women are facing deportation. They aren’t sure if, or when, they’ll be reunited with their kids.

  • The former leader of a Fort Worth Baptist seminary says he’s voluntarily stepped down from delivering next week’s keynote sermon at the convention's annual meeting in Dallas.The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Paige Patterson says in a statement he doesn’t want to detract from the meeting. Patterson was fired last month by the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary following his response to sexual abuse allegations made by students.

  • The Fine Arts Theatre in Denton is a classic movie palace. Yet, it sits on the city’s square, mostly abandoned, since a fire in the 1980s. In KERA’s weekly State of the Arts conversation, Art&Seek’s Anne Bothwell talks with Denton artist Martin Iles and Jason Reimer of The Texas Theater in Dallas, about new plans to bring the theater back to life.
