The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Monday morning storms are bringing North Texans relief from recent high temperatures. National Weather Service meteorologist Juan Hernandez says the cold front is bringing in gusty winds and rain.

"On-and-off showers and thunderstorms will be ending by around noon,” Hernandez said. “Highs are probably going to be in the mid-80s in the Dallas-Fort Worth area."

Severe weather isn't predicted but a few storms could redevelop Monday afternoon and evening. Hernandez says the rain should clear out tonight and the rest of the week should be dry and hot.

Other stories this morning:

  • Oncor reports more than 15,000 people without power on Monday morning because of storms. DART also says all rail lines may experience delays due to an area power outage impacting signals near Pearl/Arts District Station and local weather conditions.

  • Two North Texas congressmen have received a campaign finance boost from President Trump's re-election campaign. The Texas Tribune last week confirmed Michael Burgess of Lewisville and Pete Sessions of Dallas were among six Texas incumbents and about 100 GOP House and Senate candidates nationwide who got the maximum contribution possible.

  • DFW International airport is getting about $180 million in upgrades, thanks to the Department of Transportation. The money will go towards two end-around taxiway systems, which are designed to enable arriving aircraft to taxi around the runways, rather than wait to cross them.

  • We can see it’s not a good thing for us, but belly fat can have more serious consequences than you know. KERA’s Sam Baker talked about the issue with Dr. Donna Casey, an internist with Texas Health Dallas.
