Top Stories: First Texas Officer Death This Year; Spotlight On Costume Designer Giva Taylor

The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

Authorities in Richardson have identified 37-year-old David Sherrard as the police officer killed during an hours-long standoff Wednesday night. Sherrard was shot in the neck while responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex. 

It’s the first death of a police officer in Texas this year. Police say 26-year-old Brandon McCall fired his weapon intermittently during the course of the standoff but was later taken into custody. He's being held at the Collin County jail on a charge of capital murder.
