Top Stories: Deadline Nears For Property Tax Appraisal Protest; How Pinkston High Turned Around

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Tuesday's the last day to protest your property tax appraisal.

The deadline's now earlier than usual because the Texas Legislature moved it from May 31 to the 15th.

You can file protests online with the Collin, Denton, Dallas and Tarrant county appraisal districts. Check your county appraisal district to see if this option is available.

There are two common ways to challenge your property taxes. You can cite comparable sales in your neighborhood in your protest. Another is to document issues in your home that would lessen the value.

The state Legislature last year tried and failed to pass legislation addressing rising property tax values. They're expected to take up the issue again next year.
