The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

The city of Dallas appears to be a step closer to turning Fair Park private.

The Dallas Morning News reports a group is proposing to take over management control of Fair Park for 20 years.

The bid includes the nonprofit Fair Park First, as well as Spectra, a food and entertainment company. They say they would save the city $100 million over the next 10 years.

The city would continue to retain ownership of all buildings, land and other improvements. Both the park board and City Council would need to approve the plan.

Other stories this evening:

  • Bernard and Shirley Kinsey started buying art on their travels, 50 years ago. Now, the Kinsey Collection travels around the country, illuminating 400 years of the African-American experience, through documents, books, artifacts and artwork. Pieces from that collection are on view at the ArtsCentre of Plano. In our weekly State of the Arts conversation, KERA’s Anne Bothwell sat down with the Los Angeles couple to talk about why we don't know as much as we should about black history.
