Democrats are meeting at the Brown Convention Center downtown will continue the process of rebuilding.
The first order of business includes electing a new leader — as Party Chairman Boyd Ritchie is stepping down after 6-years at the helm.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker hopes to set a positive tone this evening.
"I spend a lot of my time as mayor focused on the city of Houston, and I have to make a distinction that's different from some of my fellow mayors in that I'm not a Democratic mayor. I am a mayor of Houston in a non-partisan position, but I'm a proud Democrat and I will do everything I can."
She says the task might be daunting, as no Democrat has won statewide office in Texas since 1994.
"I think what's gonna be interesting is what's gonna happen with the Republicans who are being driven by insurgents from the very far right from the Tea Party, who seem to be happily destroying any credibility of the Republican Party being a party of ideas in the future."
El Paso delegate Christina Fenstermacher says everyone here has a role that will help build support for the party.
"I drove 13 hours to get here. I think that this is the place where we set our platform for the Democratic Party. So, it's very important for us to be here and get the items included that are important to us."
Helping to rally the party will be San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and former Dallas Mayor, now U.S. Trade Representative, Ron Kirk.
