Authorities say a North Texas high school was locked down after a student died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The McKinney Independent School District said Friday that McKinney North High School was placed in lockdown around 11 a.m. after reports of a gunshot. Police and school officials responded and learned the student was dead. They didn't release any information about the student, including the student's name, age and sex.

The district said no other students were harmed and police secured the location.

Officials say students who drove to school could leave campus and others will be taken to McKinney Boyd High School where they can be picked up.

According to the district's academic calendar, classes end June 7 for McKinney students.

The shooting in McKinney comes two days after Gov. Greg Abbott released his 40-page plan to improve safety at Texas schools in light of the May 18 shooting at Santa Fe High School that left 10 people dead.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
