North Texas Airports Land Big Improvement Funds

Jun 24, 2019

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao visited Dallas Monday to announce half a billion dollars in grant money that will be funneled to airports across the country, including eight in Texas.

The funds are called airport improvement grants, and the largest one in Texas is going to DFW Airport—$23.2 million to rehabilitate a taxiway.

There are a handful of other North Texas airports on the receiving end of grant money. The Department of Transportation is giving $5.5 million to Fort Worth Alliance to extend a taxiway. Love Field will get $2.7 million to rebuild and rehab existing taxiways. Sheppard Air Force Base and Wichita Falls Municipal Airport will share $2 million to build a terminal building and access road.

Other big grantees in the Lone Star State: George Bush Intercontinental in Houston will get $15 million, and El Paso International will get $6.5 million.
