Two rescue boats from the Georgetown Sheriff's Dept. help evacuate residents from their homes in East Houston on Aug. 29, 2017 as Hurricane Harvey brought record floods to the area.

Flood experts, state officials and meteorologists are starting to get the full scope of Hurricane Harvey's behavior and the cost of damage it inflicted on the Texas Coast.

Eric Berger is a longtime journalist with a meteorology degree, who created the digital news startup called Space City Weather.

In this week's Friday Conversation, he talked to KERA's Rick Holter about the stark choices the Gulf Coast faces.

  In this conversation, you’ll hear:

  • An update on Houston after unprecedented flooding.
  • Potential plans to approach zoning and rebuilding efforts.
  • Berger’s professional and personal stake in the storm.
Rick Holter was KERA's vice president of news. He oversaw news coverage on all of KERA's platforms – radio, digital and television. Under his leadership, KERA News earned more than 200 local, regional and national awards, including the station's first two national Edward R. Murrow Awards. He and the KERA News staff were also part of NPR's Ebola-coverage team that won a George Foster Peabody Award, broadcasting's highest honor.
Former KERA staffer Krystina Martinez was an assistant producer. She produced local content for Morning Edition and KERANews.org. She also produced The Friday Conversation, a weekly series of conversations with North Texas newsmakers. Krystina was also the backup newscaster for the Texas Standard.
