The Dallas school board gets the first round of results Thursday of an investigation into actions by Superintendent Miles. Paul Coggins looked into charges that Miles broke contract rules.
Former U.S. Attorney Coggins was hired to look into allegations that Miles broke contract and bid rules. In June, the superintendent allegedly interfered with a parent education contract because his preferred provider wasn’t going to win the bid. Former Communications Chief Rebecca Rodriguez made the allegations to a district investigator before she resigned. To avoid any conflict, that investigator suggested the board hire an outsider to finish looking into the matter, and last month, trustees hired Coggins to do just that. His initial findings will be delivered to trustees in a session for board members only. Board President Eric Cowan expects nothing will be released to the public, and the full report isn't due until September. Mr. Miles denies any wrongdoing.
