DISD Begins Public Input Meetings

The Dallas School District holds a series of public meetings this week to find out what citizens want in their next Superintendent. KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports some trustees already have an idea what they’ll say.

Veteran Trustee Edwin Flores says he and other board members have heard from residents and parents for several months now about what they expect from the next superintendent. Michael Hinojosa stepped down in May and left for an Atlanta suburban job last summer.

Edwin Flores :20 Somebody who’s a good communicator. Somebody who perhaps has experience in an urban school setting. It’s really going to take someone willing to take the gains we’ve made and continue and accelerate them.

Flores says residents will likely also ask for a school district leader who is efficient with money.

Flores says trustees and the search firm will compile what they hear from the meetings, then come up with candidates to interview, perhaps by April. He hopes they pick a new superintendent by May, before the fiscal year begins in July.

Community meetings have been scheduled to seek input from Dallas citizens about the district’s search for a new superintendent.  Six community meetings are open to the public and scheduled for:

January 9 - 6:30-8 p.m.  W.T. White High School Auditorium - 4505 Ridgeside Drive
