A major initiative that aims to connect students with jobs is now underway in Dallas. Mayor Eric Johnson is launching a new program called Dallas Works. The goal of the project is simple — to help students find jobs this summer.
Nearly 1,500 young people have signed up so far, and 75 companies are onboard.
Mayor Johnson said the program will give kids the opportunity to make money and contribute to the community while learning professional skills.
“Investing in our youth not only prepares them for success, it will also help build the workforce and contribute to the overall economic health of our great city,” Johnson said on the program’s website.
Dallas Works is an expansion of the Mayor's Intern Fellows program which started back in 2008. The city says it’s helped employ 370 young people last year. Johnson said he wants to double that number this summer.
