The Dallas Catholic Diocese dismissed school at noon today because of the threat of severe weather in North Texas .

Annette Gonzales Taylor, with the Diocese, says the early dismissal involves 28 schools in 9 counties.

“We realize that this is an over abundance of caution, but we are being sensitive to our parents’ concerns, as well as to our students who have seen all of the coverage on television and saw the school in Oklahoma that was destroyed,” Taylor explained.

Taylor says teachers and staff will remain in the schools to be with children whose parents cannot pick them up early.

The National Weather Service says severe weather this afternoon could produce super-cell thunderstorms that may include tornadoes and very large hail.
