As school districts across North Texas are closing indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak, Wednesday the districts that serve students in Dallas updated the Dallas City Council on how they plan to educate and feed children.
Dallas ISD will shift to virtual learning. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa says at first, teachers are expected to check in with students at least once a week until the district can determine the best strategy for online learning.
He says the district is working to provide internet hot spots for the roughly 40% of students who don't have internet access.
In Richardson ISD, remote learning will begin next week. Parents and students will receive a message with details about what that entails for each grade level.
Plano ISD has sent families learning activities that students can do at home until more formal remote learning starts next week. The district has posted an online survey that officials will use to determine how many students have technology access.

The Dallas and Plano school districts are providing grab-and-go style breakfast and lunches for all students at select campuses.
Starting Monday, Richardson ISD will begin a meal delivery service utilizing existing bus routes and stops.
Cedar Hill ISD says it will continue providing lessons through its Flex Learning program and is also providing pick-up breakfast and lunches.
