The Dallas Morning News announced today that it may be moving out of its current home at Young and Houston streets.
The newspaper reports:
The announcement was made this morning in an email to employees by Jim Moroney, chairman, president and chief executive of A. H. Belo Corporation, the parent of The News. “A move is by no means certain,” Moroney told employees. “We are evaluating our current building and other possible locations to determine which one will best further our design — and your work — needs.”
The paper says this is part of a push by editor Mike Wilson to create a "newsroom of the future." Moroney says the operation will not move out of downtown Dallas. It's scouting leasable locations with the help of commercial real estate firm CBRE.
The paper's current building was designed by architect George Dahl; the News has been there since 1949.
The building site has been mentioned as a possible location for a proposed Houston-to-Dallas bullet train.
Last year, the Dallas Morning News offered buyouts to 167 employees.
