Holy Land Trial's Opening Statements

By Bill Zeeble, KERA reporter

Dallas, TX – Bill Zeeble, KERA reporter: Lead prosecutor Jim Jacks took an hour outlining the government's case. It mentioned the birth of Israel, of Hamas, & the Holy Land foundation, and family ties between some Holy Land founders & Hamas. Jacks said evidence would show the holy land foundation was set up specifically by Hamas to receive money the foundation raised here under the guise of charity. The intent? To overthrow Israel. Defense attorneys not only denied all charges, but said their clients rejected violence and terror. They said Foundation leaders even asked the fbi to list illegal groups they should not send money to, because they meant to follow the law and help the needy. They never received such list. Then, they were indicted. The trial could last months . for KERA 90.1 I'm Bill Zeeble
