Secretary Shea to resign

Austin, TX – Texas Secretary of State Gwyn Shea will resign her office effective August 4, 2003. Secretary Shea's letter of resignation was accepted by Governor Rick Perry this morning. "It has truly been an honor to serve the people of Texas as their Secretary of State, and the memories I take with me will enrich the rest of my life. However, while serving as the Texas Secretary of State is incredibly challenging and rewarding, it also restricts your ability to spend time with family. I cannot see my children and grandchildren as often as I would like, and as a father yourself, you know just how quickly they grow up and abandon the nest. Regretfully, I must tender my resignation as Texas Secretary of State effective August 4, 2003," the Secretary stated in her letter of resignation.
