Media Guideline for AMA

NPR's Richard Knox reports on the Journal of the American Medical Association's new media guidelines. Researchers who want their studies published in the journal must not hold press conferences or send out press releases, and can do interviews only if their comments are embargoed until the journal publishes their studies. The new policy is intended to cut down on what some doctors call "Medicine by Headline", where new medical developments are being implemented before full studies are released.
