Girl Scouts

From Texas Standard:

The start of the new school year is one of the busiest seasons for the The Boy Scouts of America, which happens to be among of the country's biggest youth organizations. Right now, the group's representatives are focused on recruiting new scouts, but this year, they're taking a different tack with their usual membership drive.

The Boy Scouts program is becoming Scouts BSA in February 2019 to reflect the decision to include young women, the Boy Scouts of America announced on Wednesday.

The organization's name will remain the same; only the program for older youth will change its name.

The Irving-based Boy Scouts of America recently launched an effort in some area schools, helping to teach classes and introduce more kids to scouting during the day.

The program, currently running in four Dallas middle schools, was inspired by the Girls Scouts, an organization that's been going inside local schools for decades.

Amid the annual cookie sales, the Girl Scouts are celebrating their centennial this year. The organization has evolved during that time, and commentator Merrie Spaeth likes some of the recent changes.
