U.S. Vice President Mike Pence was in Texas over the weekend.
His trip included a stop in Hidalgo for a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border just days after Republican Senate leaders were unsuccessful in passing immigration reforms.
At a Dallas County Republican Party fundraiser Saturday, Pence promoted recent administration efforts, including passing a major tax overhaul and heightened immigration enforcement.
He also asked the audience to pray for victims of the Florida school shooting. Pence's speech did not outline a plan to address mass shootings or gun violence.
Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was also in Texas this weekend, fundraising in Houston. She’s scheduled today to join Democratic Congressman Joaquin Castro in San Antonio to discuss the new tax law.
