The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Texas Republicans open their state convention in San Antonio today.

The convention occurs every two years, in which Republican delegates debate over which “planks” should be part of the party’s overall platform.

Some of those ideals to be debated this convention range from whether there should be ban on transgender bathrooms to support for legislation that would allow gun owners to carry a handgun without the need for a permit.

Delegates will also choose a party chairman.

Other stories this morning:

  • Our Big Screen team has a preview of this weekend’s Oak Cliff Film Festival, which includes a documentary about a rock ‘n’ roll legend and a film from the 1920s accompanied by a live orchestra.
