Top Stories: Package Explosions Have Police Departments On High Alert

Gabriel C. Pérez/KUT News
Members of local, state and federal law enforcement including the FBI, ATF and Department of Homeland Security hold a press conference near the scene of a third fatal package explosion in East Austin.

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Police departments across the country are urging residents to be cautious of unexpected deliveries after three explosions in the last 10 days killed two people and hurt two others in Austin.

In North Texas, the Coppell Police Department building was evacuated last night after a resident asked police to investigate a suspicious package.

The resident wasn't expecting a delivery, and told officers the package appeared to be from outside the United States. Irving's bomb squad later declared the package safe.

Police officials say if you receive a package not ordered by anyone at your home, do not touch it and call 911. The same for packages not addressed to you and that have no return address.

Other stories this morning:

  • The Dallas County District Attorney’s office is investigating possible voter fraud.
  • Four more Dallas County residents have died from the flu, bringing the county total to 78 for the season.
  • West Dallas teens are on a road trip this Spring Break to explore Mexican-American history.
