Top Stories: No Injuries In Fort Worth Trail Derailment; How We Feel Pain

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Main Street in Fort Worth will be shut down most of Wednesday because of a train derailment.

Police said 40 train cars broke loose from a rail yard near Meacham Airport around 1:30 a.m. Several derailed. At least one train car completely blocked Main Street.

Power lines were pulled down in the accident and electricity's been cut off in the area as a precautionary measure. Most of the rail cars were empty at the time of collision. There have been no reports of spills or injuries.

  • Dallas Democrat Eric Johnson has announced plans to run for Texas House Speaker.
  • A young Latino activist group has decided to endorse Houston businessman Andrew White over former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez for governor. Both are in the runoff for the Democratic nomination.
  • New research from the University of Texas at Dallas has found the way we feel and develop pain is different, depending on if you're a woman or a man.
