Top Stories: John Wiley Price Corruption Trial Begins; James Baldwin’s Significance In 2017

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Opening statements are expected this morning in the federal corruption trial of John Wiley Price. Prosecutors say the Dallas County Commissioner accepted nearly $1 million in bribes in exchange for providing insider information and for voting in favor of certain contracts.

Other stories this morning:

  • Military veterans gathered at the State Capitol yesterday to push for expansion of medical marijuana laws. Two years ago, the legislature approved the use of non-THC cannabis oil for patients with epilepsy.  
  • Of the five films nominated for best documentary this year, three of them focus on African Americans. Our Big Screen team concludes its Oscar preview series with one of those films – a reminder of writer James Baldwin’s significance – 30 years after his death.
