Top Stories: Inside The Community College That Became A Crime Scene

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Nearly two weeks after a gunman at El Centro College shot and killed five police officers, the downtown Dallas campus reopens to faculty and staff this morning.

Classes will begin tomorrow, but signs of the attack still remain.

KERA intern Javier Giribet-Vargas was on the street when the shooting started. When he finally got his car bar back, it had bullet holes in the bumper. You can read his essay and see photos of the aftermath here.

  • A new study from UT Southwestern Medical Center finds Zika virus can infect brain cells and hide itself from the immune system. This comes after a Houston-area newborn tested positive for Zika-related microcephaly, a birth defect that affects the brain.
