Solar Impulse Project Adding A Final Open House To See The Plane

solarimpulse.com

The organizers of the Solar Impulse project say there will be one final opportunity for North Texans to see the plane which is flying coast-to-coast to raise awareness about the capabilities of renewable energy.

The plane will be on display from 1 pm to 5 pm Wednesday, May 29, at DFW International Airport.  Those wanting to see the plane before it takes off for St. Louis can sign up at the Solar Impulse website.

Solar Impulse is powered by 12,000 solar panels which enable it to fly day and night without refueling.  It has the 210 foot wingspan of a jumbo jet but weighs about the same as a small car.

Solar Impulse was developed by two Swiss aviation pioneers, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg who take turns piloting the plane.

The plane touched down at DFW early Thursday morning.    Open houses for the public filled up quickly this past weekend so the project organizers are adding one more.
