From The Newsroom: Nonprofit To Continue Resettlement; Fighting Patent Trolls

UNHCR via Texas Tribune

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: A nonprofit organization that resettles refugees in the United States says it will still place Syrian refugees in Texas. This is despite a directive from Governor Greg Abbott not to do.

That order came after the last month’s terror attacks in Paris.

Other stories this morning:

  • Even after an inventor secures a patent, sometimes they still have to defend it against so-called patent trolls. Some companies claiming to help defend patents have turned to abusive tactics in recent years.
  • The Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History at the UT Dallas opened a new wing last night within the Dallas Museum of Art. “It’s the first time that a major urban art museum has dedicated a space for advanced art historical research in the museum,” Institute director Richard Brettell said.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 8:20 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
