More Than 300 Emaciated Longhorns, Including 3-Day-Old Calf, Seized From Texas Property

Humane Society of North Texas
The Humane Society of North Texas removed 338 longhorns, including a three-day-old calf, from a property outside Waco.

More than 300 malnourished cattle were seized from a Central Texas property on Friday night.

The Humane Society of North Texas removed 338 longhorns, including a three-day-old calf, from the property outside Waco. The cattle will be cared for by the humane society until permanent custody is determined, the organization said.

A court date has been set for Friday afternoon.

The adoption process will begin after the animals' conditions improve and if the humane society is awarded custody, the organization said.

The humane society worked with the Hill County Sheriff’s Department to seize the animals. A warrant was issued Friday morning for the animals, who were located on a property near FM 933 and County Line Road in Hill County, WFAA reported.

Investigators had been monitoring the site, but decided to act after receiving a picture of dead longhorns. At least 17 were found dead on the property, and another 30 may have to be euthanized.

The surviving animals were taken to West Auction Barn in West, Texas.
