Irving’s Recent String Of Quakes Have Been Near A Gas Well Site

University of Dallas
The Dallas Morning News reports the quakes have been centered near a gas well site located close to the University of Dallas.

Five stories that that have North Texas talking: another small quake in Irving happened last night, a former TCU student pleads guilty in the heroin death of a T. Boone Pickens’ grandson, Texans are moderate spenders, and more.

Another small earthquake occurred in Irving last night. The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 2.2 magnitude tremor at 11:45 p.m. near Spur 482 and Century Boulevard.

The Dallas Morning News reports the latest string of quakes have been centered near a gas well site owned by Trinity East Energy. The well is close to the University of Dallas. But SMU seismologist Brian Stump says it’s too early to tell if the recent quakes have anything to do with the university well.

Last night’s tremor follows two other quakes that occurred over the weekend. A 3.3 magnitude quake on Saturday night was the strongest that Irving has faced.

Correction 11:21 a.m.: The gas well site where the Irving earthquakes have been centered was once owned by the University of Dallas, but is now owned by Trinity East Energy. The original post stated the well was owned by the university.

Ty’s parents allege Rodriguez injected their son with heroin to steal his ATM card and get money. As part of his probation, Rodriguez is required to server four months in jail.

  • Texans aren’t the biggest spenders, according to a WalletHub study. The state was ranked 22nd of the 50 states and Washington D.C., but the Dallas Business Journal reports that can be attributed to how much Texans pay for energy. Larger houses mean more money is going towards utilities. The low cost of housing in Texas offset those higher expenses, but Texans could still use some work in other areas. The study also reports Texans have the third highest percentage of debt in auto and credit card debt.
